Websites for schools

A school website your staff can actually keep up to date

We build it, we host it, and we look after the technical side, so nobody in school has to. Changing a word, adding a letter or posting a closure takes a minute, in plain English, with no training day required.

Why schools move to us

Three things that go wrong with a school website

Every one of them is about people and time rather than technology, so that is what we built for.

Only one person can edit it

Usually the teacher who is good with computers. When they move school, the website stops changing, and the last person who knew the password has gone. Ours is built so anyone in school can do it in a spare ten minutes, so no school is ever down to one pair of hands.

Editing it feels dangerous

People leave a website alone because they are worried about breaking it where parents can see. Nothing you change here is visible until you press publish, you see exactly what parents will see first, and anything at all can be put back the way it was.

The statutory pages drift

Policies go out of date, required information moves, and nobody notices until an inspection. We keep a live list of what your school must publish, and SchoolSite shows you what is coming due before it is overdue, rather than after.

Day to day

Plain words in, a proper website out

It reads like a form, not a website builder

No blocks to drag, no layouts to choose, no HTML. Each page asks for the things that page needs, in the words a school already uses.

  • ✓Write a paragraph, add a letter, post a piece of news.
  • ✓Upload a policy and it lands in the right place on the right page.
  • ✓Term dates entered once appear everywhere they belong.

Nothing is live until you say so

Every change is a draft first. You see the real page exactly as a parent will, on a phone as well as a computer, and only then do you publish.

  • ✓Preview the finished page before anyone else can see it.
  • ✓Publishing tells you plainly which pages are about to change.
  • ✓Every published version is kept, so last week's wording can be put back.

Closed today? Say so in under a minute

Snow, a boiler, a burst pipe. One short message puts a notice at the top of every page of the website, and takes it down again just as quickly.

  • ✓Works from a phone, at six in the morning, from home.
  • ✓Appears on every page, not just the home page.
  • ✓Comes off with one press when the day is normal again.
Designs

Pick a look, then make it yours

Every design is built for the same content, so choosing one is a decision about character, not about what your website can do. Your colours, your crest and your photographs go in afterwards.

For primary schools

For secondary schools

For special schools

Every design is shown on Wrenfield, a made-up school with made-up people, so you can click round a whole website. Your own words, colours, crest and photographs go in when we build yours.

The part nobody enjoys

Your statutory pages, watched rather than remembered

Welsh Government and the Department for Education both set out what a school has to publish. The list changes, policies expire, and it is nobody's actual job to notice. We hold the list for your nation and your type of school, check what you have published against it, and show you what is coming due before it is overdue.

The same goes for accessibility. Every page is checked automatically as it publishes and anything found is listed on your Website check, so the basics stay right without anyone in school having to remember them.

✓A live list of what your school must publish, by nation and school type.
✓What is coming due shown before a policy is out of date, not after an inspection.
✓Accessibility checked on every page, every time you publish.
✓Term dates and contact details in one place, used everywhere.
✓Your content is yours, and you can have a copy of all of it whenever you ask.

See your own school as a website, before you decide anything

Tell us which school you are. We build a working version from your current website, with your own pages and words in it, and one of our team checks it before we email you the link. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign.
